Metamorphosis II – the Upscale Chronograph Watch by Montblanc

n 2010, the Montblanc Metamorphosis model just blew up the heads of Haute Horlogerie enthusiasts thanks to its two absolutely unique set of dials. This year the Metamorphosis II chronograph watch has made its debut. It took four years for the development of such a model - its production started immediately after the release of the first Metamorphosis series. Unlike the original model with a sporty look, the new Metamorphosis looks more classic and elegant. Its case is made of polished 18 karat pink gold and can boast of curved hidden lugs. In addition to the dial, the size also makes this chronograph watch a special one. The model is quite impressive: the round-shaped case measures 52 mm in diameter and 15.8 mm in height. Such proportions expand the boundaries of the commonly accepted format.

Like the original model, the Metamorphosis II designer watch is based on the regulator principle. It means that this timepiece has the central functions of minutes and seconds, and its hour hand is located separately at the 12 o'clock position. Moreover, the minutes are indicated by a large hand turning along a 210º retrograde arc between the 8 and 4 o'clock positions. When it reaches the 60-second mark, it snaps back to zero. The date is displayed on the additional sub-dial at 6 o'clock. The "metamorphosis" itself is accomplished thanks to the special slider at the 10 o'clock position that opens a new set of dials, and a conventional luxury watch with Roman numerals turns to a precision chronograph with Arabic numerals. The first one shows the normal time and the second one - chronograph instruments. It's a deceptively simple concept. But, in fact, this project has gathered high-quality experience of the last 100 years and perfect craftsmanship of the company. The model is powered by a hand-winding movement with 85 jewels and 50 hours of power reserve. It is composed of 746 parts.

This is a technique, which allows a neat and complex pattern to be mechanically engraved over the base material.
